Completely out of nowhere Sony’s latest announcement is a free to join loyalty scheme for fans named PlayStation Stars, which will offer rewards including PS Store wallet funds and games. Unfortunately it doesn’t mention anything about linking this to Trophies but I’m pretty sure with the amount of super easy Platinum games that have surfaced it would ruin the rewards scheme. It does mention that you can get rewards for bagging yourselves a certain trophy from a game, so I imagine it will be like bounty hunting for rewards.
The initiative – scheduled to launch later this year – will see you earning rewards by completing campaigns and playing specific games.
All PlayStation Stars members will have opportunities to earn loyalty points. Points can be redeemed in a catalog that may include PSN wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products. As an additional benefit, PlayStation Plus members enrolled in PlayStation Stars automatically earn points for purchases on PlayStation Store.
Also a new reward called “digital collectibles.” Collectibles are digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation. There will always be a new collectible to earn, an ultra rare collectible to strive for, or something surprising to collect just for fun.
I’m personally hoping for some sort of display system to be able to show these off and hope that they are not just images sent to our PSN.
According to Chen, the platform holder is running some tests right now before it rolls out the initiative later in the year. “We hope this new programme brings to mind past gaming memories while making you excited for the future with PlayStation: commemorating the gaming eras we created together, charting new paths to explore, and bringing players together for global celebrations”
