Wild Terra 2 – Review – MMORPG, Sandbox, RPG, Dungeon, Survival

Not quite ultima online, but got serious potential & constantly growing…

Wild Terra 2: New Lands is a sequel to Wild Terra Online by a small team of 4 developers; Juvty Worlds, released in 2017. Five years later, New Lands seeks to offer a fresh experience with revamped gameplay mechanics and tons of new content. The game launched with mixed reviews. While the developers have taken strides to solve many of the pain points brought up by players, the game needs several improvements if it wants to survive in the hypercompetitive MMORPG space.

Well, right now, this is exactly what has been happening over the course of my 500+ hours in this game.

As a huge Ultima Online player myself in my younger years and even the ressurected servers which brought all the tihs back, Wild Terra 2 isnt quite on UO’s level. It does however have a very very solid base and plenty of room to expand.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands has very mixed reviews but sadly most of the reviews have not giving the game the time it deserves, so i have jumped in to it and i can say that i have enjoyed it so far at the time of writing this article, i have spent a total of just over 500 hours in the game.

The beginning Tutorial does take a few hours to complete; you begin on a ship and eventually land on “the Starter Island” which is where you are introduced to the main aspects of the game via quests which teach you a few of the skills on offer and the basic mechanics of the game and get accustomed to the combat system. My advice here is dont waste your time too long on the starter island as i did. Much much more is availble on the main island.

Crafting is a massive part of Wild Terra 2, which means resources are needed. I did feel in the Starter Island which i spent several days in, that i could only find certain resources at certain areas and these was sparse. Luckily the resapwn times were very short so i did not have to wait too long.

Combat, remind me of Ultima Online, clicking the right mouse button to swing your weapon whilst using your keyboard or left mouse button to move and using unlocked skills to stun, bleed or parry your enemies strikes via the skill/item/weapon slots (1-9 on your keyboard).

I would like to point out that alot of the reviews for the game – clearly are players who are not familiar with this style of game or have not got passed the Turtorial/Starter Island and on to the main map. As mentioned above this does take alot of time,  and even when i had completed the turotiral i remained on the starter island collecting and making sure i had crafted a decent quality set of full leather armour before setting foot on the main map. What i can share with you is that i didnt have to do this as resources are plentyful on the main map. Also PVP is not a worry as safezones are scattered around so that you are safe unless you adventure into one of these RED Zones.

The safezones, are a good idea but i do think the developers should add some kind of cooldown to murderous players, stopping them from hiding in a safezone instantly after ambushing a new player. But as i have said the game does have alot that it could add to it if it wants to be in the hall of fame like Ultima Online and i do hope that they do overtime.

The Developers do listen to their players, and tweak the game as it grows. I personally do highly recomend the game to anyone who has had UO expierance. Do NOT let the negative reviews put you off.

Since the release alot has been fine tuned in Wild Terra 2 and the developers even though are a small team of 4 have listened to the community on Steam and the game is constantly been improved.

Do you want to become the local blacksmith? A Noble Knight? A Gang of bandits? Or maybe hte local fish supplier? The world is yours here is Wild Terra 2.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands – If you have not got the willpower to craft absolutely everything or seek a source of coinage in this long grinding game, then walk away. But if you love a decent MMORPG which screams Ultima Online vibes, then this is the game for you and i highly recommend grabbing it. You never know theirs a strong chance you will cross paths with myself on the EU Server under a Guild called “Orthadox”.
